A Very Wild Card Weekend Re-Cap

SAN FRANCISCO — A wild wild-card weekend erupted on Saturday beginning with the 49ers defeating the Seahawks 41-23. 49er’s quarterback Brock Purdy put on a show, but what’s new? Purdy threw for 332 yards, had zero interceptions, and sealed it off with 3 touchdowns. As you recall, our pick for the Super Bowl is 49er’s facing the Chiefs, and we’re sticking to it. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s check out key players who contributed to the 49er’s big win. Running back, Christian McCaffrey ran for 119 yards, and wide-receiver Deebo Samuel collected 133 yards and scored a touchdown. Additionally, wide-receiver Brandon Aiyuk added 77 yards. Not a bad trio, huh? A notable mention is the most obvious: The 49er’s defense is nothing to mess with. You add Purdy to this nearly unstoppable defense and you get possible Super Bowl contenders. Let’s keep a close eye on these not-so-underdogs.

Let’s travel to Jacksonville and recap the absolutely insane Jaguars vs. Chargers game. It was certainly looking grim for the Jags as their quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw his fourth interception in the second quarter with Jacksonville already in a 27-7 hole. Just when you think things could not possibly get worse, they did. Chargers Asante Samuel Jr. became the first player with three defensive interceptions in a playoff game since 2004. But don’t fret, Lawrence collected a stat himself for making the third biggest playoff comeback in N.F.L history to defeat the Chargers 31-30. Yes, you read that correctly. Despite the Jags’ horrific start, they finished with a win. If this doesn’t show you how vital it is not to give up and just believe… I mean check out the highlights below!

“It’s unbelievable,” said Lawrence who finished with 288 yards and four touchdowns. “You couldn’t write a crazier script.”

Let’s head to Buffalo. The Buffalo Bills have a special story this season and it’s clear just about everyone is cheering them on regardless of their home team. It was after the scary scene during Monday Night Football where safety Damar Hamlin was carted off the field following going into cardiac arrest. We can all agree that football has felt a bit different since the incident as everyone was focused on Hamlin’s recovery. One thing remained, despite Hamlin’s absence, his presence was certainly felt during the Miami vs. Bills game. The Bills defeated Miami in a thrilling 31-34 match Sunday afternoon. Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen threw 352 yards, collected 3 touchdowns. Unlike the other games it was a close game which came down to a nail-biting finish. Wide receiver’s Stefon Diggs balled out with 114 yards, and Gabe Davis secured 113 yards with a touchdown.

The Wild-Card weekend was full of surprises as the New York Giants defeated the Minnesota Vikings 31-24. This season wasn’t perfect for the Giants but they keep fighting back, and we’re watching running back Saquon Barkley dodge his defenders like a magician as he secured 53 yards and 2 touchdowns. Giant’s quarterback Daniel Jones had 301 yards and 2 touchdowns also. Key elements is the Giant’s defense certainly showed up when needed, which was crucial. Let’s see if they can keep up this momentum against the Philadelphia Eagles next Saturday…

Sunday night ended with the Cincinnati Bengals defeating Baltimore Ravens 24-17. The game had you on the edge of your set but after Bengal’s defensive end Sam Hubbard’s fumble recovery resulted in 98-yard touchdown..things went left for the Ravens. While their was great effort on both ends, the Bengals stayed on-top. With Ravens’ Lamar Jackson out with injury, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley threw for 226 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. Bengal’s Joe Burrows had 209 yards, and 1 touchdown. It’s safe to say the Bengals defense secured the W and earned them a spot to face the Buffalo Bills!

One game remains for this very wild card weekend and it’s Dallas at Tampa Bay, you know I have to ask…wha ya got? Dallas’ quarterback Dak Prescott manifested this moment back in September when he told Buc’s Tom Brady that they would meet again.
