Brooklyn Nets Get Swept

NEW YORK — Remember when Nets’ guard, Kevin Durant, boasted about how there will be problems for the Bostons Celtics this year? Well…let’s just say that did not age well after Boston swept Brooklyn in a 4-0 series. Brooklyn ended their season with a nail-biting 116-112 defeat from Boston. A disappointed but hopeful, Kyrie Irving, showed his frustration but also the motivation to improve during a press conference. “Disappoint, sadness, but also more importantly, on the positive side of this, motivation,” said Irving describing his emotions after the season-ending defeat. You can practically feel the tension from Irving, who sat out most of the year due to his vaccination status. Irving revealed to the press that he felt he let his team down when he was unable to play. Irving only played 29 games this 2021-2022 season and believes the controversy surrounding his vaccination status was a distraction for the team, and his absence did not help.

“It’s just burning in my heart right now. I know so many people wanted to see us fail,” said Irving

But is Kyrie the main reason to blame? What about the other four on the court? While Irving is a huge factor, so is leading scorer Kevin Durant. Durant averaged over 30 points per game through March and April. However, during this series against Boston, Durant just put up 22 points per game over the first 3 series with Boston. Well - let’s be real. The Boston defense is a force that one shouldn’t take lightly. Even a top-scorer will struggle against this #1 defense, and this series proved exactly that. Many even questioned why Durant did not take many shots during this series. The answer is clear, it was the lockdown defense from the Celtics. Boston did exactly what they needed to defeat Brooklyn. Thanks to notable performances from Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown, these two key players made Boston look unstoppable.

While it ends for Brooklyn here, many are wondering what’s next? The team has a solid foundation, but let’s face it. A team that holds so much talent should at least win a game in the playoffs. At least one...right? In this situation, it is easy to point the finger but it is a team effort, coaching, and much more to consider. I guess we’ll have to wait and see - if we can bear it.
