NCAA: LSU Tigers Are National Champions
DALLAS, TX — The LSU Tigers defeated Iowa 102-85 in a heated match on Sunday making them this year’s National Champions! Despite Iowa’s legendary performance by Caitlin Clark, the 17 point deficit between the Tigers and the Hawkeyes was hard to diminish no matter how many three-pointers Iowa drowned. A huge part of the Tigers win was the bench scoring more than 20 points while their starters faced foul trouble. Jasmine Carson, guard, scored 22 pts, and made 5 three-pointers towards the end of the second quarter. LSU scored 32 points in the second quarter setting a tournament record for most points in a quarter. If that’s not impressive enough, LSU broke another record having scored 59 pts for most in a half. Carson’s 3-pointer buzzer beater into the half made the crowd roar as her performance was precisely what the Tigers needed to defeat Iowa. Carson came into the game once team leader,Angel Reese, got into foul trouble.
“This is the game of my life,” said Carson.”I won a national championship on the biggest stage possible.”
Despite the Tiger’s tough energy, Iowa kept hope alive as Clark finished with a game high 30 points, and 8 assists even with 4 personal fouls. The emotion in the game was high as the clock trickled down to seconds left and Angel Reese gave Clark a taste of her own medicine, waving her hand and pointing to her ring finger while staring her down.
Needless to explain, Reese later revealed that she only did that because Clark disrespected South Carolina’s Raven Johnson by waving her off on the 3-point line, as if indicating she didn’t have to guard her.
Reese emphasized, “I don’t take disrespect lightly.”
Despite the drama, and the loss, Clark had an incredible year breaking records in both women’s and men’s NCAA basketball. Clark has stellar stats and has been crowned the Naismith’s Player of the Year, rightfully so.
