PHOENIX β€” It was the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs who battled Super Bowl LVII, but it was the Chiefs who are Super Bowl champions for the second time in four years defeating the Eagles 38-35. With both teams holding 16-3 records, we knew the world was set for a competitive match on Sunday evening. It was a shaky start for the Chiefs but after a costly first half fumble from Eagle quarterback Jalen Hurts (that resulted in a Chief touchdown) the Eagles momentum took a shift.

The Chiefs overcame a 10-point deficit and took control of the game after quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore. Wide receiver, Toney, was wide open on his five-yard touchdown catch that put the Chiefs ahead by one point, giving them their first lead in the game. Toney set up the second Chiefs touchdown of the fourth quarter with the longest punt return in Super Bowl history. Check it out below!

It only got better for the Chiefs when a four-yard connection between Mahomes and Moore gave the Chiefs an eight-point advantage! But the Eagles responded back after Hurts got into the end zone on a quarterback sneak after he hit an open DeVonta Smith for a 45-yard pass. Hurts leveled the score at 35 points apiece on a two-point conversion run. The Eagles did just about everything they had to do to try and win this game after responding back. But it was a holding call late in the fourth quarter that changed the Eagles’ fate. It was corner-back James Bradberry, who was called for defensive holding on the pass and that allowed Kansas City to run out the clock. The flag positioned the Chiefs and kicker Harrison Butker to easily knock in the game-winning 27-yard field goal, leaving a mere 8 seconds left on the clock.

Takeways: The Eagles were out-coached this game. Instead of quickly scoring a touchdown and leaving one minute and thirty seconds on the clock for the Hurts to respond back, the Chiefs instead took two knees to kill the clock and set up their 3-point victory!

Despite a loss, Hurts had a outstanding game completing 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards with a touchdown and a 103.4 passer rating, one of the best games of his career. Hurts additionally carried 15 times for 70 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first quarterback to rush for three scores in a Super Bowl. It’s safe to say, Hurts did just about everything he could to win this match.

Mahomes broke the 23-year MVP Super Bowl curse after he was crowned the title during the NFL Honors by winning the Super Bowl on Sunday. Also Mahomes earned his second Super Bowl MVP award after pulling off another Super Bowl comeback accumulating, three touchdowns and no interceptions, completing 21 of his 27 pass attempts for 182 yards finishing with zero turnover-worthy plays. He also added 44 rushing yards, with six rush attempts despite a questionable ankle. A MVP, indeed.

β€œIt took everybody to win the game,” said Mahomes
