MIAMI — Shohei Ohtani stunned the crowd on Tuesday as he put the finishing touches on Japan’s undefeated run at the 2023 WBC in Miami as they battled Team USA. Prior, no player in baseball history showed a two-way ability at the level of Ohtani as he beautifully represents Team Japan and Los Angeles Angels. The star protected a one-run lead in the ninth inning with a groundbreaking closing, giving team Japan a 3-2 victory and the country an unmatched third title in the event’s history.

World Baseball Classic MVP: Shohei Ohtani

"This is the best moment in my life," Ohtani, 28, told reporters. "Just because we won today doesn't mean that we achieved a final goal, this is just a passing point. Our team has just started, so I think we need to tune-up for the future.”

Here’s a breakdown of Ohtani's performance in team Japan's seven wins: Ohtani’s stats: .435/.606/.739 with four doubles and a home run at the plate and a 1.86 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 9.2 innings on the mound, plus a save. Ohtani is unreal and the young baller is just getting started. Last night was one of the most emotional games we’ve seen in baseball history. No player in baseball history has shown a two-way ability at the level of Ohtani, and now the star can add another achievement under his belt as a World Baseball Classic closer.

Ohtani is just getting started and the 28 year-old is already making a significant mark in baseball history.
