LAS VEGAS — The ladies of the Las Vegas Aces certainly did #RaiseTheStakes for the state of Nevada, winning the 2022 WNBA championship trophy. The team celebrates their first major sports team to bring the title to the city of Las Vegas. As if the win was not significant enough, Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Sept. 20th officially as Las Vegas Aces Day. The title comes after defeating the Connecticut Sun 78-71 in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. Let’s face it, the eyes have been glued to the Aces from the first jump-ball of the season, especially following Coach Becky Hammon’s achievement for coach of the year. The team’s nearly immaculate 18-4 record comes from impressive performances from guard Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson (the newly crowned WNBA MVP), and Chelsea Gray.

Yeah, beast mode.

On Sunday night, the Connecticut Sun held up a great fight as they kept the score close. Although, the momentum changed as Aces guard Riquana Williams scored two late three-pointers for a comeback to seal the win. Finals MVP Chelsea Gray put up 20 points, and 6 assists, Kelsey Plum made 15 points, and the explosive A’ja Wilison added 11 points, secured 14 rebounds in Game 4. The final score in Vegas was 78-71.

"If it wasn't for the [WNBA] -- like I'm truly grateful, I'm blessed. I'm just so glad to have y'all as my teammates, y'all my road dogs for real," said a tearful A’ja Wilson.

"So many people doubted us, wasn't in conversations and we did it!"

The Las Vegas Aces have been changing the game of the WNBA, and while they ended their season on a historic note, these ladies are not done just yet.

"Of course, the job's not done but we put a lot of people on notice and I wouldn't be this, I wouldn't be who I am if it wasn't for the Aces organization," said A’ja Wilson.
