NBA: Carmelo Anthony Announces Retirement
NEW YORK — One of the most iconic careers in basketball history has come to an end as Carmelo Anthony announces retirement on Monday, May 22, 2023. Known as Melo, the 6-time All-NBA, 10-time All-Star, and 3-time Olympic gold medalist has quite the resume. The well-decorated star has accomplished a 2003 NCAA championship, made the 2003-04 All-Rookie team, and was a scoring champion during 2012-13. And if that wasn’t enough, Melo was the ninth all-time leading NBA scorer and made the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
An outstanding career that started when the star led Syracuse to an NCAA championship in his lone college season and went on to spend 19 years in the NBA has come to an end.
Anthony was the No. 3 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and played his final NBA game last season as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He finished as the No.9 scorer in the league finishing his career with 28,289 points.
Anthony sent a farewell video via social media as he sends thanks to the league and fans, but it is really us who wishes to thank him for an iconic career.
