NBA: Jimmy Butler Brings the Heat to Boston in Game 1 Win
BOSTON — It was an explosive start for the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden as they led during the first half. Jayson Tatum was front and center for the debacle after erupting for 21 first-half points to help spot Boston an eight-point halftime lead. However, things took an abrupt turn as Miami put up 46 points in the third quarter and outscored Boston by 21 in the period to suddenly take a 12-point lead. It was a Jimmy Butler show as the guard showed out, scoring 35 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, with 6 steals in an intense historic Game 1 123-116 victory.
Butler was fully recharged after a disastrous first half, scoring 16 points in the third quarter. The Heat got into the penalty early and took advantage of a Celtics defense that lacked discipline amid tired legs. Miami outscored Boston 39-14 in the third period, erasing an eight-point halftime lead. The Heat was literally on fire by the time the Celtics tried to fight back a bit in the fourth quarter. Marcus Smart had 13 points, and 11 assists, helping Boston manage to cut a 20-point Miami lead down to eight in one stretch, but Miami secured the win.
