NBA: Draymond Green is Suspended Indefinitely
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — This Golden State Warrior is taking the team’s name literally, as he faces suspension for his most recent incident on the court. During a heated match-up against the Phoenix Suns, the power-forward struck the Suns’ Jusuf Nurkić in the face, which caused him to get ejected immediately. In a replay, Green can be seen spinning aggressively as he dangerously swung his fist, ultimately striking Nurkić in the face.
As a result, Nurkić fell onto the court belly-down as officials booted Green with an ejection. Green alleges it was not intentional, as he apologized to Nurkić post-game. However, the instant replay and his past tendencies all say otherwise. Only a month ago, Green faced a 5-game suspension for putting Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a chokehold. Gobert was not innocent in the altercation, as the NBA fined him and Klay Thompson $25k for their role in the brawl. Gobert called the fine “shameful” and said he plans to file an appeal with the league. However, it all trickles down to many altercations, with Green at the center. Green often finds himself involved in physical altercations, making him the common denominator and main antagonist of the NBA. While Green is known for his aggression and theatrics on the court and is dubbed the modern-day Dennis Rodman, when is enough enough? Despite an apology post-game, many are unconvinced as Green faces indefinite suspension.
Suns star Kevin Durant expressed his empathy for his former teammate.
“I hope he gets the help he needs,” said Durant as he went on to reflect that Green did not always behave in this manner.
Green has caused quite a buzz in the media as many are fed up with the power-forward’s unacceptable behavior. Basketball legend and host Charles Barkley expressed his disappointment in Green while on his show, King Charles, claiming he’s never seen anything in a game like that. In reality, many of us haven’t seen anything quite like that. However, when it comes to watching Green, it has become almost expected to see this behavior from him. Instead of desensitizing him to his antics, how about we realize he needs some serious help or interrogation? News Personality Stephan A. Smith emphasized that Green is in hot water after Nurkic spoke to the media, saying, “I don’t know what’s wrong with him,” referring to Green. Nurkic also jokingly said, “I’m glad he didn’t choke me.” The talk show host continued to admit his view, stating, “While Nurkic laughed it off, it should not be a funny matter.”
At this time, Green has not made a statement after the news spilled about his suspension; perhaps he will have enough time during this suspension to smooth out the rough edges and return on a better note.
