NBA: Kyrie Irving Traded to Dallas Mavericks

BROOKLYN — Kyrie Irving has flooded headlines after requesting to get traded from the Brooklyn Nets, and many fans and analysts pondered on where he’ll land. There were numerous speculations on where the point-guard was headed, but many didn’t think of it being the Dallas Mavericks. Yesterday the news broke the internet when it was revealed by The Athletic Senior lead NBA Insider Shams Charnia . The trade request reportedly stemmed from a lack of progress on a contract extension. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets recently discussed a contract extension with Irving’s agent. However they “remained reluctant to rush into a long-term commitment without further evidence that Irving could stay reliable, perform at a high level and remain controversy-fee.” And after Irving’s controversial background off the court, we can understand the lack of reliability the Nets speak of as Irving seemed to be quite the distraction for their organization — only making headlines for his behavior off the court.

Who won this trade, the Nets or the Mavericks? Let’s see the break down. The Brooklyn Nets are getting point-guard Spencer Dinwiddie, power forward Dorian Finney-Smith, a first-round and multiple second -round picks. The Dallas Mavericks will add MVP and All-Star Kyrie Irving to their roster, which already holds Luka Doncic. Will this duo be the one to beat? It’s certainly a duo everyone’s eyes will be glued to watching this upcoming playoff season. The Nets traded their second-best player, leaving them with MVP and All-Star Kevin Durant. As Irving was always looked at as having one foot in and one out the door, many fans are claiming they are relieved and wanted Irving out awhile ago. Irving is an incredible asset to a team, but when is enough enough? For all we know the 30-year-old, injury-prone point guard, may back out when you least expect it. Irving’s unpredictable behavior is hard to call, and with Doncic’s future in Dallas being less secure it’s a hard call to make.

Who do you think won this trade?!
